Approximately 2,250 Westar Energy customers in west Wichita were without power for roughly an hour and 15 minutes Thursday afternoon after an outage, Westar spokesman Shane Batchelder said.
Streets lights were reported to be without power from at the intersections of Kellogg with Meridian and West streets. Wichita police briefly closed the ramps at West Street because of the outage, according to a tweet from the department.
Batchelder said the outage was first reported at 3:32 p.m., and power was restored around 4:45 p.m. Initial reports indicate an equipment failure in a section of underground line, Batchelder said, though crews have not finalized that cause yet.
The outage was reported at a substation near Newman University’s campus on McCormick Street.
Friends University classes were canceled for Thursday night.
