A 38-year-old man was critically injured Thursday morning in an industrial accident in Bel Aire, authorities said.

The man was on the front end hoist of a Bobcat which was lifting construction materials to the second floor of an apartment complex being built in the 5600 block of North Lycee, near Northeast Magnet High School, when the materials dropped to the ground at about 10:30 a.m., Bel Aire Police Chief Darrell Atteberry said.

The shift in weight prompted the Bobcat to roll back, flipping the victim over the back of the construction vehicle. The man landed on his head, Atteberry said.

The victim, who came to Wichita from out of state to work on the construction crew, was taken to Wesley Medical Center in “very serious” condition, Atteberry said.

“The people at the scene did an excellent job of stabilizing him for EMS,” Atteberry said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be notified of the industrial accident, he said.
