Funeral arrangements have been made for the three people killed in a collision near Towne West early Sunday morning.
A joint funeral will be held Friday for Jake Hallacy and Zachary Taylor, both 26 and residents of Valley Center. The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at NewSpring Church, 12200 E. 21st St. in Wichita.
Funeral services for Emily Phillips, 21, of McPherson will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in McPherson.
Hallacy, Taylor and Phillips were in the back seat of a Chevy Impala when it was broadsided by a Ford Expedition just after 2 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Maple and Tracy, authorities have said.
The Expedition, driven by Juan Pablo Gandara-Rodela, was traveling east on Maple at a high rate of speed and ran a red light prior to slamming into the driver’s side of the northbound Impala. The driver of the Impala had stopped for a red light, then pulled into the intersection after the light changed to green.
Gandara-Rodela, 31, faces numerous potential charges in connection with the collision, including second-degree murder, aggravated battery and leaving the scene of an accident involving great bodily harm.
Two women sitting in the front seats of the Impala were injured in the collision but are expected to survive.
