While investigating reports of a vicious dog in south Wichita on Tuesday morning, Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies stumbled upon what appeared to be a marijuana-growing operation, Lt. David Mattingly said Wednesday.

At 10:55 a.m. Tuesday, deputies in the area of Broadway and 83rd Street discovered the marijuana at a house on 83rd Street South while attempting to contact residents.

Investigators recovered 140 plants “mostly inside” the house, Mattingly said.

He said the value would be determined by the grade” of the plants, and whether they were “mature.

Investigators are still working on the case. No formal charges have yet been presented to the District Attorney’s office.
