Fire investigators are still trying to figure out how a fire ignited and damaged a duplex in west Wichita on Monday night.
The fire was reported shortly before 9:30 p.m. at 1116 1/2 W. Dayton, fire Lt. Joe Evans said in an e-mail response to questions. Fire crews found thick smoke and flames coming from the duplex as they arrived.
Firefighters found the fire in the basement of the duplex and quickly brought it under control. No injuries were reported.
Damage was estimated to be $25,000, Evans said. The fire was across the street from Whiskey Dick’s, where a fire occurred earlier in the day.
“Both fires, although very close in proximity, are not related in any way,” Evans said.
