A man having an argument with his girlfriend started a fire at his east Wichita house Monday afternoon – a stunt that landed him in jail.
The 34-year-old man started the fire at about 1:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Erie, near Hillside, Lt. Dan East said. He was booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated battery and aggravated arson.
The man started the fire in a bedroom and caused about $1,000 in damage, Wichita fire Lt. Joe Evans said.
“Investigators on the scene reported an odor consistent with that of gasoline,” Evans said in an e-mail response to questions.
But investigators are awaiting lab results before confirming what accelerant was used to start the fire, he said.
The suspect’s 23-year-old girlfriend was not hurt in the incident, East said.
