A man and woman were arrested early Monday morning in west Wichita, not long after someone tried to rob a woman at gunpoint outside of an IHOP, police said.

A 33-year-old woman was sitting in her vehicle waiting for a friend to come out of the IHOP at 515 S. Ridge Road shortly before 4:30 a.m. Monday when she was approached by a 21-year-old man pointing a handgun at her, Lt. Dan East said. The restaurant is just north of Kellogg.

The armed man demanded the woman’s purse, but she refused to give it to him. The suspect then left in a white Dodge Stratus, East said. Officers responding to the reported crime spotted the car nearby and pulled it over at Maple and Illinois, near West Street.

The 21-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery, East said.
