Wichita fire crews make two separate calls overnight to house explosion

Wichita Fire Department crews were dispatched to a house explosion Thursday night – and were called out to the scene again early Friday morning.

A Sedgwick County dispatcher said Westar Energy called 911 about a house explosion in the 1500 block of South Handley at 11 p.m. Thursday.

That’s northeast of Seneca and Harry.

She said the house was unoccupied and that it was leveled by the explosion. She said fire crews reported there was no fire.

The dispatcher said fire crews were sent out again to the house at 1:12 a.m. because of a hotspot, or small fire. She said that call was not upgraded to a full alarm.
