Symphony patrons missed out on the art tent at this year’s Symphony in the Flint Hills near Rosalia.

But now ticket holders — and non-ticket holders — have the chance to bid in the silent auction online and at the nonprofit organization’s office in Cottonwood Falls, according to a news release Thursday.

Wind gusts reached 40 mph on the ranch-turned-concert venue during the June 14 symphony, forcing the art tent to be evacuated. The organization, which aims to heighten appreciation and awareness of the tallgrass prairie, resorted to “plan B,” art tent manager Louise Carlin said Thursday.

The gallery is available for viewing and bidding at the Cottonwood Falls office, 311 Broadway, weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery is typically closed Sundays, but this Sunday, organizers have invited artists and bidders to the gallery for a special bidding from 1 to 5 p.m. Bidders can also participate online at

About 50 pieces of art — each depicting the Flint Hills — make up the collection, the news release said. On Thursday, bids ranged from $250 to nearly $3,000. Half the proceeds go to the artist and the other half is considered a donation to the Symphony in the Flint Hills, the release said.

Many concert attendees were disppointed the art tent was closed June 14, Carlin said.

“We have people that come to the event just for the art,” she said. “We’ve been in a little bit of a hurry trying to get this up online.”
