It’s not easy to be inconspicuous when you’re carrying two large swords.

A 55-year-old man learned that at about 2 p.m. Sunday when he tried to walk into Chit Chat Wireless at 2011 S. Seneca, Lt. Dan East said. Employees asked him to leave the swords outside. He did, but then came inside and took a cellphone and left, East said.

Officers responding to the theft, near Pawnee, found the man with the swords walking a few blocks away in the 1900 block of South Exposition, East said. He began approaching them with the large swords in his hands, and they ordered him to stop.

He complied and was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault of law enforcement officers and theft. The stolen cellphone was found not far from where the man was arrested, East said.
