The plan was to meet behind the Red Bean’s Bayou Grill to conduct a drug deal late Wednesday afternoon, a man told police.
But the deal didn’t go as planned shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Lt. Steve Kenney said. When the 24-year-old man went behind a dumpster behind the restaurant in the 7000 block of West 21st North to sell marijuana to two people he knows, one of them pulled out an extending baton and clubbed him on the left shoulder and the left side of his head.
That caused the victim to drop the backpack containing a gram of marijuana and a .45-caliber handgun, Kenney said. The 25-year-old suspect picked up the backpack and told the victim, “That’s what you get for stealing.”
The two would-be buyers then took off in a gold Ford Escort, Kenney said. Police are looking for the suspects.
