Starting Monday, the U.S. 54 bridge over Ohio Street and the BNSF Railroad in Augusta will have one westbound lane closed until October for a construction project, according to a news release Tuesday from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Only the westbound bridge will have work done, the release said. The bridge is located just east of the U.S. 77 junction.
“This is part of our ongoing maintenance … of the Kansas highway system,” said Martin Miller, South Central Kansas public affairs manager for KDOT.
The repair project will patch the bridge’s deteriorating surface, Miller said, which will then be covered by a concrete surface overlay. It has been “a number of years” since the bridge has had any repair work, Miller said.
Miller said he doesn’t expect to see any traffic delays as a result of the lane closings.
