Two men drowned in the Lake of the Ozarks in separate incidents this weekend, including a suspected drunken boater who jumped or fell overboard while in custody.
The other man drowned while trying to rescue someone who had fallen overboard.
The two were identified as Brandon E. Ellingson, 20, of Clive, Iowa, and Adam K. Pedego, 28, of Columbia.
Pedego drowned about 10:55 p.m. Friday at the 2 mile marker of the McCoy Branch Cove when he and two other people jumped in to save someone who fell from a pontoon boat. The boat was being operated by a 30-year-old Kansas City man.
Ellingson drowned about 5:20 p.m. Saturday after he stood up on a Missouri Highway Patrol boat, stepped to the edge and fell or jumped overboard. He was in custody on suspicion of boating while intoxicated. The patrol’s dive team recovered his body about 11:25 a.m. Sunday.
Ellingson was attending Arizona State University, according to the Associated Press.
