Wichita Festivals, which puts on the annual Wichita River Festival, is looking for more donors to its charitable button program, Celebrations for a Cause.

A total of $3,500 has been donated so far, which provides for nearly 1,000 buttons for local children and adults, but participating organizations are requesting more buttons than that, according to Wichita Festivals.

The nine-day festival starts Friday.

Organizations that have been allotted buttons include the 22nd Air Refueling Wing at McConnell Air Force Base, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Catholic Charities, DUI Victims Center of Kansas, Envision, International Rescue Commission, Kansas Humane Society, KETCH, Starkey, the Wichita Children’s Home and three area churches.

Companies making donations include Brand Plumbing; Carey, Thomas, Hoover & Breault.; Comfort Care Homes; IT Kansas; Mitchell Media; P.B. Hildale Co.; and Wichita Federal Credit Union. Individual donors include Steve Dillard, Bob Dool, Helene Longhofer and Ron Ryan, as well as members of the Riverfest Operations Committee and the Wichita Wagonmasters.

Wichita Festivals reintroduced Celebrations for a Cause last year as part of its policy of tightening the requirement that all festival-goers have buttons.

Buttons are $5 for adults and $3 for children and are available at Dillons, QuikTrip and AAA locations.

To donate money to Celebrations for a Cause, go online to www.wichitariverfest.com or call Wichita Festivals at 316-267-2817.
