A man in his 50s was arrested Saturday after he allegedly beat his neighbor with a cane because he was upset over an eviction notice, Wichita police said.

The neighbor told officers Saturday that the man came over to his home in McLean Apartments, 2626 W. Ninth St., at about 5 p.m. to “say he wasn’t happy about being evicted,” Sgt. John Ryan said. The man then reportedly hit his neighbor’s head four times with the cane, Ryan said, causing multiple lacerations.

The man was taken into custody after the alleged attack, Ryan said. Sedgwick County Jail records show he was booked on suspicion of one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and is being held on $50,000 bond.

The neighbor was treated for his injuries at the scene, Ryan said. He gave the neighbor’s age as 69.
