A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal threat for actions that led to the Sedgwick County Courthouse being placed on lockdown for a while Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

A 48-year-old man called 911 at about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday to report receiving a message from his 21-year-old son stating that he was “at court with a gun,” Lt. Dan East said.

It was unclear which court the son was referring to, East said, so the Sedgwick County Courthouse was locked down and officers checked municipal court at City Hall as well. The son was found in municipal court with his mother and a friend.

“He did not have any weapons on him,” East said.

He was detained for questioning and later booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. Officers found a BB gun in the suspect’s mother’s car, East said.

City Hall was not placed on lockdown during the incident, he said.
