A plane bound for Wichita was evacuated Monday afternoon in Arizona after a chemical smell was detected in the aircraft’s cabin.
Allegiant Flight 142 was taxiing for departure about 1:30 p.m. at Mesa-Gateway Airport near Phoenix when the captain decided to evacuate the plane, according to Ian Gregor, public affairs manager for the Federal Aviation Administration.
The flight had 162 passengers on board.
In an e-mail to The Eagle, Gregor wrote that passengers evacuated the plane on the taxiway using slides.
