Police have few clues and no suspects in a shooting early Thursday morning near Wichita State University.
A man was walking with a woman at about 2:30 a.m. in the 1600 block of North Hillside when several shots were fired, Capt. Doug Nolte said. That just southwest of the WSU campus.
One of the bullets hit the 36-year-old man in the chest and passed through his body, Nolte said.
“They didn’t see anyone,” he said.
Shortly after the shots were fired, Nolte said, they saw a car drive off – but they did not know whether the car was related to the shooting.
The victim was taken to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition. Though the wound is serious, Nolte said, “we’re optimistic he’s not going to die.”
Investigators would like anyone with information about the incident to call the felony assault section at 316-268-4191 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
