When Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies separated two inmates who were fighting Tuesday night, they found a metal shank in one inmate’s hand.
The Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday provided this account of the incident: At 8 p.m. Tuesday, a 22-year-old inmate and a 27-year-old inmate began fighting in the family visitation area. Deputies who stopped the fight found a metal shank in the right hand of the 27-year-old inmate. The inmate dropped the shank. Both inmates were taken to get medical treatment, but neither had major injuries, the office said.
The office said it will seek aggravated assault charges against the 27-year-old inmate.
