A young girl injured when a truck struck the motor scooter she was riding with her father on Monday remains in critical condition at a local hospital, Wichita police said.

The 4-year-old girl was sitting in front of her father on the motor scooter as they were traveling north on Waco at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, Lt. Dan East said. A southbound GMC truck turned left in an attempt to go east on 10th Street but struck the scooter, ejecting both the girl and her father.

Both the man and his daughter were wearing helmets at the time of the collision, but police at the scene reported the girl suffered severe head injuries. Her 30-year-old father, whose multiple injuries included a broken leg, is in good condition at Via Christi St. Francis, a hospital spokeswoman said. The child is being treated there as well.

The 44-year-old driver of the GMC truck was not injured. The case remains under investigation, East said.
