For the first time, Go Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau is hosting a play day.
It is a way to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week this week and is an invitation for Wichitans to visit the city’s top attractions for free.
To participate, Wichitans are asked to go to the Go Wichita website and register for two free tickets to one of 10 attractions.
They can then collect the tickets in person at the Go Wichita office at 515 S. Main, Suite 115.
On Saturday, they can then visit that attraction.
“It’s only good while supplies last,” Susie Santo, president and CEO of Go Wichita, said Sunday.
“We wanted to introduce a fun way to celebrate,” Santo said. “What we want is for Wichitans to get out and experience our great attractions. We will be promoting these same attractions this summer. And for residents who have friends and family coming here, we want to give them some great ideas to go to places where they have already experienced and had a great time.”
The participating attractions are Botanica, Exploration Place, Kansas African American Museum, Kansas Aviation Museum, Mid-America All-Indian Center, Museum of World Treasures, Old Cowtown Museum, Sedgwick County Zoo, Tanganyika Wildlife Park and the Wichita Art Museum.
Visitors to the Wichita area spent more than $1 billion in 2012, Santo said.
“We are an industry, and we are serious about the economic impact tourism has on this community,” Santo said. “People are always surprised to hear those figures. We want Wichitans to help promote all the things there is to do in our city.”
