Wichita may get some badly needed rain on Tuesday, forecasters say, but that doesn’t mean the brutish winds are taking a break.

Gusts could approach 40 miles an hour out of the northwest, with steady breezes in the mid-20s. A wind advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday for more than 30 counties in western, central and south-central Kansas, including the Wichita area.

Highs today will only reach the mid-50s in Wichita, with cloudy skies ruling day. Overnight lows will fall nearly into the 30s as rain chances continue, forecasters say. North-northwest winds will ease, but only slightly. Gusts could still top 30 miles an hour.

Sunshine returns Wednesday, but not warmer temperatures. Highs will only reach the upper 50s. Breezy conditions will persist, with steady northwest winds in the upper teens and gusts topping 30 miles an hour.

Temperatures are expected to be in the 60s Thursday and Friday.
