Police are looking for a man who burst into a house in south Wichita and robbed the resident at gunpoint — at one point getting into a fight with his victim before fleeing late Tuesday night.

The crime was reported at about 11:40 p.m. in the 3100 block of South Millwood, Lt. Dan East said. That’s close to Kelly Elementary School northwest of Seneca and 31st Street South.

The suspect confronted the victim in the front room of the house and took his wallet at gunpoint, East said. The victim, a 40-year-old man, tried to run out the front door of the house to escape. But the robber hit him on the back of the head with his gun.

A fight ensued before the robber ran out the front of the house and got into a silver sedan or SUV that may have been waiting for him, East said.

East said cases like this of a stranger bursting into a house and robbing residents at gunpoint are troubling.

“It’s unusual and it’s also concerning,” he said.
