Five men who left an attempted home robbery empty-handed Monday took their frustrations out on a family’s vehicle instead, police said.
The men confronted a man in front of his house in the 3300 block of North Fairview shortly after 1:30 p.m. Monday and demanded money at gunpoint, according to a police report. That’s northeast of 29th and Arkansas in north Wichita.
He ran inside the house and locked the door, according to the report. The men kicked the door open and went inside.
Unable to find cash, the five men left — but not before smashing windows in the family’s 1995 Honda Accord with a sledgehammer and shooting out the back windshield, Capt. Brent Allred said.
The family — a 24-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and a 2-month-old boy — were not injured in the incident.
