Police are investigating the report of an attempted abduction Monday night in southeast Wichita.
A 10-year-old girl told her mother that she was walking in a parking lot in the 900 block of East Harry, near Washington, at about 7:45 p.m. Monday when a black man in a green Ford Fusion drove up to her and told her to get in because her mother wanted him to bring her home, Capt. Brent Allred said.
He placed a lighter and a cigarette in her hand, she said, but she ran away. The man initially ran after her, then returned to his car and drove around looking for her. She hid behind a church, Allred said. The man then drove away.
The man is perhaps 20 years old and is about 5-feet-7 and 160 pounds, the girl said. He had the word “love” tattooed on his forehead and had stretched ear lobes and a piercing in his upper lip. He wore blue jeans, a black shirt and white shoes. The Fusion had Lamborghini doors, she said.
Officers investigating the incident found no other witnesses, Allred said, but someone did tell them he had seen a green Fusion using the car wash across the street at times.
