A woman was able to escape after a man put a gun to her head while she was in her car in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart at 11411 E. Kellogg Drive about 11:30 p.m. Friday, police said Saturday.

The woman, 28, reported that the man had asked her for a ride, and when she refused, he put the gun to her head and demanded the vehicle, police Sgt. Ron Hunt said. The woman got out of the car and started to run toward the store, the man grabbing at her arm to try to get the keys, Hunt said. The woman yelled for help, and the man then ran away, the sergeant said.

After police arrived, they noticed a taxi pulling into the parking lot and kept an eye on it. When they saw the suspect getting into the taxi, they arrested him, Hunt said. He is 25 years old.
