Three people, including a toddler, were hospitalized Thursday after their car rear-ended a semitruck on K-254 west of El Dorado.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said the big rig was stopped at a red traffic light in the eastbound lanes of the highway at Boyer Road when the 2008 Suzuki ran into its trailer shortly after 3 p.m. The 31-year-old woman driving the car, her 36-year-old male passenger and a 2-year-old boy were taken to Susan B. Allen Hospital in El Dorado for treatment.
A highway patrol dispatcher said Thursday afternoon that the two adults were transported in serious condition and the child was possibly in critical condition. Although their injuries intitially were thought to be potentially serious in nature, the family has since been released from the hospital.
“They are stable and have been dismissed,” a Susan B. Allen charge said at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The family is from El Dorado, according to a highway patrol crash report.
Eastbound lanes of K-254 affected by the crash were closed for a short time Thursday afternoon while authorities investigated the wreck.
The 60-year-old Lebanon, Mo., man driving the semi was not hurt, the highway patrol said.
