A 32-year-old man was taken into custody early Thursday morning on suspicion of aggravated assault of a law officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and for evading and eluding law enforcement, Wichita police say.
Wichita police officers stopped a vehicle after midnight Wednesday for traffic infractions in the 1500 block of South Bleckley, near Oliver and Harry, according to Lt. Dan East, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.
When a police officer went up to the car, the 32-year-old male driver accelerated, dragging the officer for a few feet and hitting him with the side of the car. The officer was not hurt, East said.
But police officers did pursue the vehicle for a short distance before stopping the vehicle again, he said. This time the man ran from the vehicle but was soon caught and taken into custody.
A 33-year-old female passenger inside the car was questioned and released, East said.
