A six-member jury deliberated about an hour Tuesday before convicting a former Wichita State University student of illegally carrying a concealed firearm in the lobby of the Wheatshocker Apartments. John W. Bannon will be sentenced by District Judge Christopher Magana on May 22.
Two Wichita State University police officers testified Monday that they found the gun tucked in Bannon’s waistband on March 27, 2013, when they went to the apartments to investigate a report that someone there had a gun.
Bannon’s lawyer argued unsuccessfully that the locked lobby of the apartment complex was an extension of Bannon’s home.
