March will flex its reputation for wind again today in the Wichita area – so much so that the National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory stretching from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The advisory covers more than 50 counties in the eastern half of Kansas, including the Wichita metropolitan area. Wind gusts could approach 50 miles an hour at times this afternoon and evening, officials say.
Highs should top out in the mid-50s today in Wichita, with a good chance of rain this afternoon and evening. Southerly winds will intensify throughout the day, forecasters say, reaching steady breezes in the 30s by late afternoon.
Chances for rain continue overnight, when lows settle in the mid-40s, and persist into Thursday morning. Highs on Thursday could reach 70, forecasters say, with robust southerly winds switching to the west and northwest by late afternoon. Gusts could approach 35 miles an hour.
Lows Thursday night will be in the upper 30s, forecasters say, with Friday seeing temperatures only in the mid-50s.
