An 18-year-old man was shot in the leg during a drug deal that didn’t go as planned in the park of an east Wichita housing subdivision Monday afternoon, police said.
The victim and a 19-year-old man went to the park at 1298 N. Bracken in the White Tail subdivision near 13th and 127th Street East at about 4:30 p.m. to meet a person and sell him marijuana, Lt. Dan East said.
A stranger approached and tapped on the passenger door window with a gun, East said. He then tried to break the window, prompting the victim to put his car in reverse and back away.
The suspect then fired several shots at the car, East said. One of the bullets hit the 18-year-old man in the left thigh. He was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment of the wound and then released.
Anyone who has information related to the incident is asked to call detectives at 316-268-4191, East said. They can also call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
Tips can also be sent online at www.WichitaCrimestoppers.com/ or via mobile phone by texting TIP217 then the message to CRIMES (274637).
