He was drunk and he wanted a family friend’s roommate’s shih tzu — even though it was early Monday morning, police say.
So the 51-year-old man kicked the door in to their apartment, punched his friend in the head and took the dog, Lt. Dan East said. But he tripped and fell as he was leaving the apartment in the 1600 block of South Mosley, near Harry.
He hit his head on a railing, East said, before getting back up and fleeing. Officers responding to the friend’s 911 call found him shortly after the break-in and arrested him.
The man was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of offenses including DUI and possession of marijuana. The dog was returned to its owner, East said.
