Oberlin police and the Kansas Highway Patrol were both looking for the man in response to the 911 call when he fired shots at them in the 700 block of East Commercial Street, according to a statement released by the highway patrol. Law enforcement officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
The name of the man shot to death has not been released. The statement did not specify whether he was killed by a state trooper or an Oberlin police officer.
