Wichita police are searching for the driver of a gray Chevy Impala that drove up to a car Wednesday night as it was traveling north on Hillside and began firing shots at the car.

The incident happened at 9 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Hillside, according to Capt. Doug Nolte, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

Two to three shots were fired, Nolte said. One of the shots went through the vehicle and struck a passenger in the front seat, grazing the passenger’s stomach.

The driver took the passenger to Wesley Medical Center; the passenger was treated and released.

“At this point, we don’t know any relationship between the suspect and the victim,” Nolte said. “They were not aware why anyone was shooting at them or the car. It would be helpful from the public if anyone in the area saw or heard anything to contact investigators.”

People are asked to call either 316-268-4191 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
