Correction: An earlier version of this story contained an incorrect age for Kevin E. Donn.
A 55-year-old man remains hospitalized Thursday following a fatality accident in the 2200 block of North Jackson.
The accident occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lt. Todd Ojile, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a two-door vehicle that had struck a tree on the east side of the road. The 55-year-old driver was transported to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in critical condition where he was admitted for surgery. His friend, 54-year-old Kevin E. Donn, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses to the accident described the car as traveling at a high rate of speed, possibly between 50 and 75 miles per hour at some point, Ojile said Thursday.
At the intersection of 22nd and Jackson, the driver lost control of the vehicle, the car skidded sideways and slammed the passenger side of the vehicle into a tree, police said.
“Speeds and alcohol definitely had a role in the traffic accident,” Ojile said. “EMS personnel could smell alcohol but there was also evidence of alcohol consumption in the vehicle.”
