A 21-year-old Wisconsin woman died early Saturday following a head-on collision along U.S. 54 in Meade County.
Sarah R. Hemauer, of Chilton, Wis., was a passenger in a 2004 Chevy Cavalier when it veered into oncoming traffic at 1:40 a.m., about 2 1/2 miles east of the highway’s junction with K-23, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in a crash report. That’s near the town of Meade, about 40 miles south and west of Dodge City.
The Cavalier struck a 2011 Mazda head-on, fatally injuring Hemauer, the highway patrol said. Two others in the Cavalier – the 22-year-old man driving and Hemauer’s 21-year-old husband, both of Chilton, Wis. – and the 21-year-old Meade woman driving the Mazda also were hurt and hospitalized.
The Cavalier was eastbound on U.S. 54 when the crash occurred, the highway patrol said. The Mazda was headed west.
