Swanson Service Corp. will soon begin providing commissary items to Sedgwick County inmates, a sheriff’s official said Wednesday.
Under a three-year contract, Swanson will offer hygiene products, food, coffee and other commissary items to inmates at the jail and work release facility, said sheriff’s Maj. Glenn Kurtz.
Kurtz said that Swanson will provide the service at no cost to the county because the company’s income comes from inmates.
The new contract will allow the Sheriff’s Office to reassign two full-time employees, Kurtz said.
The items to be sold have been reviewed for security and safety purposes, he said.
Swanson, with offices in Denver, has been in business for more than 30 years and has served more than 600 correctional clients, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
