A dispute between brothers escalated Tuesday morning until one stabbed the other in the ribs, police say.
The incident unfolded close to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of South Windsor, Lt. Doug Nolte said. That’s near Harry and Woodlawn in southeast Wichita.
Two brothers, ages 18 and 19, got into a fight at the house, Nolte said. At one point, their father stepped in to break up the fight.
“This caused the 19-year-old to become upset, thinking the father was taking sides,” Nolte said.
He began arguing with his 53-year-old father, prompting the 18-year-old to intervene in an attempt to calm things down. That’s when he was stabbed by his older brother, Nolte said.
He was stabbed in the left side of his rib cage. The older brother then accidentally cut his own leg.
The stabbing victim was taken to Wesley Medical Center and admitted, Nolte said. His older brother was taken to Via Christi Hospital for treatment and then booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
The cause of the argument is not clear, Nolte said.
