A federal judge on Tuesday imposed a four-year prison sentence on a 46-year-old Olathe man who was found with more than 12,000 sexually explicit images of children on computer media.

James Christmas, who pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child pornography, was also ordered to pay a $12,500 fine, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.

In his plea, Christmas admitted to possessing the images as well as 26 pornographic videos of children, more than 1,300 of whom were identified as known victims by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Grissom said.

Authorities began their investigation of Christmas in September 2010 after his estranged wife found some of the child porn and notified police. Investigators obtained a search warrant and found Christmas’ collection, Grissom said.
