Police spent much of Tuesday investigating an officer-involved shooting after a confrontation at a home in southwest Wichita.
A behavioral scientist called 911 shortly after 11:40 a.m., indicating he’d been called by someone who appeared suicidal, Lt. Doug Nolte said. Officers were sent to 2302 W. Graber, which is just east of Meridian and north of 31st Street South.
Officers went to the house to check on the resident, Nolte said. The decision was made to enter the house.
“They supposedly had heard gunshots inside the residence,” Nolte said.
Once inside, “they had a confrontation with an armed individual,” he said. “I don’t know who fired, how many times or any of that. That’s what we’re working through right now.
“It appears the officers did fire” their weapons, he said.
The man, who is about 30, was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, where he underwent surgery, Nolte said.
