A 25-year-old man was sitting in the parking lot of a Dollar General in his Chevy Camaro convertible when he was approached by a man who wanted to buy the car.

The incident happened at 3:10 p.m. Saturday at 1625 S. Rock Road, near Harry, according to Sgt. John Hoofer, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

The driver climbed out of the car to show the inquiring man his car’s engine. But after the driver closed the hood, the man jumped into the driver’s seat and tried to drive off.

The owner tried to get into his vehicle from the passenger side and was dragged for some distance before he was finally able to get in the car and put it in park.

The suspect then ran from the vehicle and fled the scene.

Although the driver received asphalt burns from being dragged, he refused treatment, Hoofer said.
