Two Wichita schools on the north side were locked down for about 30 minutes Thursday morning while police searched for possible auto theft suspects.

North High School, 1437 N. Rochester, and Irving Elementary, 1642 N. Market, were locked down about 9 a.m., although students were allowed to enter the building, school district spokeswoman Susan Arensman said in an e-mail.

Police were searching for the suspects on foot in an area that included the schools, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said.

The suspects still hadn’t been located as of 9:45 a.m.
