Hope in the Valley Equine Rescue and Sanctuary recently received a $3,000 grant from the Bernice Barbour Foundation Inc., a private foundation established in 1986 in memory of a New Jersey woman who loved animals.
The Valley Center horse sanctuary will use the money to help offset its annual $35,000 feed bill, according to a news release issued by Hope in the Valley.
Each year, the Barbour Foundation takes in applications and awards grants to organizations throughout the nation that aid in preserving, caring for and preventing cruelty to animals.
The Hope in the Valley news release said “receiving a grant such as this one to help with our larger needs is imperative if we are to continue to provide a better quality of life for these abused, neglected, abandoned, unwanted, or slaughter bound ponies, horses, mules and donkeys.”
