A popular series of programs will return to the Red Rocks State Historic Site in Emporia this month.
Red Rocks was the home of the William Allen White family. The lectures are hosted by the Kansas Historical Society and called “Sundays on the Porch.” They were inspired by the White family who, if any member of the family were home, invited guests to join them on the front porch.
White, editor of the Emporia Gazette for nearly half a century, twice won the Pulitzer Prize, journalism’s highest honor.
The “Sundays on the Porch” programs start at 2 p.m. each Sunday through February. Because of cold weather, the series will be held in the visitors center of the historic site.
Red Rocks is at 927 Exchange St. in Emporia. Topics include “William Allen White’s Boyhood Home: The History of El Dorado, Kansas”; “General Frederick Funston: One of William Allen White’s Best Friends” and “Treasures of the White Collection.”
