A woman was robbed by two armed men as she arrived at her house in north Wichita on Wednesday night, police said.
The 22-year-old victim said two strangers in their 20s ran up to her as she walked up to her front door at about 7:30 p.m. in the 3300 block of North Market, Capt. Brent Allred said.
They pushed her inside, forcing her to drop her purse, according to a police document. One of the suspects led her at gunpoint to her bedroom. He forced her to her knees and held the gun to her head while the second suspect ransacked the house.
Eventually, they left with only her purse, Allred said. The woman was not injured.
Crimes like this “can occur pretty quickly,” Allred said. “The best thing is to be aware of your surroundings.”
That means stopping and looking around as you approach your home. Or look at the approach to your home as you drive up to it. If you see something suspicious, Allred said, stay in your car and call 911.
Have abundant lighting around the exterior of your house to discourage criminals from hiding close to the structure.
