KU to receive $1 million gift from Garmin co-founder

The University of Kansas School of Engineering will receive a $1 million gift, the university said in a prepared statement Thursday.

Min Kao, of Garmin International Inc. had given $500,000 previously, the KU statement said. Half of the new gift will create the Min H. Kao Engineering Design Studios and half will go to scholarships, the KU statement said. A mentoring program will also be set up between KU and Garmin.

Garmin’s company headquarters are in Olathe.
