A nasty dose of winter is on the menu for Wichita and most of Kansas today, with frigid temperatures and bitter wind chills well below 0.
Highs won’t get out of the teens in the Wichita area, forecasters say, and gusty north winds will push daytime wind chills to -15 or lower. Skies will be sunny, but northerly winds topping 25 miles an hour at times will make the sun seem largely irrelevant.
Overnight lows will drop to about 10 under mostly clear skies, forecasters say, with winds easing and shifting to the south. But wind chills will still be below 0 at times.
Friday will be notably warmer, forecasters say, thanks to those south winds. Highs could top 40, but those southerly breezes will nonetheless push wind chills into the negative numbers again. Gusts could top 35 miles an hour.
The weekend will be sunny and warmer, with highs in the 50s.
