Wichita State stays No. 5 in AP poll; Kansas, Kansas State move up

Wichita State remained No. 5 in the Associated Press top 25 men’s basketball poll for a second week. Kansas returned to the top 10 and Kansas State returned to the top 25.

The Shockers (19-0) did not move up despite a loss by Wisconsin, which dropped from No. 3 to No. 9. Villanova (16-1) jumped past the Shockers to No. 4 from No. 6. Villanova has won five straight games and owns wins over No. 8 Kansas and No. 10 Iowa. It received 1,377 points from writers and broadcasters to 1,368 for WSU.

Kansas (13-4) moved up seven spots after defeating No. 16 Iowa State and No. 11 Oklahoma State last week. Kansas State (14-4) is No. 22 and is back in the top 25 after wins over No. 25 Oklahoma and West Virginia.

WSU moved up one spot to No. 4 in the coaches poll. Kansas moved to No. 11 from No. 18. Kansas State is the first team left out of the top 25.

The Jayhawks play Baylor on Monday at Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas State plays at Texas on Tuesday.

WSU will try to extend its school-record win streak on Wednesday at Illinois State.

Arizona (18-0) remains No. 1 in the AP poll, followed by Syracuse (18-0) and Michigan State (17-1).
