Authorities think a 70-year-old man who disappeared from his hometown of Atchison in late December may be in the Wichita area.
No one has seen Garry Clyde Sandy. But there have been reports that a pickup matching the description of Sandy’s vehicle was spotted early Saturday morning on a service road off I-135 near Newton, Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson said Tuesday.
A Silver Alert was issued at noon Friday, Wilson said. The vehicle sighting is the closest thing to a lead that authorities have had.
“We’re at our wits’ end as to why he disappeared,” Wilson said. “We’ve done a lot of things to try and track him down.”
Sandy is 5 foot 8, 200 pounds, balding, with brown hair and blue eyes. His birthday was Jan. 5.
He is known to wear a Kansas City Chiefs ball cap and jacket. He likes to frequent casinos, has a heart condition and is diabetic.
Sandy owns a gold 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup with a regular cab and long bed. Its Kansas license plate is 764 CVR.
The pickup has damage to the left front fender and the left headlight is missing.
Anyone who has information about Sandy’s whereabouts is asked to call the Atchison police at 913-367-4323.
