Wichita will receive a welcome break from the frigid temperatures and wind chills today, forecasters say.
Highs could approach 40 in the metropolitan area, thanks in part to south winds pushing into the teens. Sunny skies will help, too. But forecasters caution that wind chills could still be in the neighborhood of -15 during the morning hours.
Lows will not be as cold tonight, either, dropping only into the low to mid-20s as clouds move into the area. Winds will shift slightly, to the southeast, and push into the mid-teens at times.
The clouds will linger on Wednesday, forecasters say, when highs are expected to reach the mid-30s.
